Kawailoa on the North Shore (not to be confused with Kailua's Kawailoa) is one of the quintessential coastal Oahu neighborhoods. All the houses in this North Shore neighborhood are walking distance to the beach, and roughly half of the total properties categorized as Kawailoa are oceanfront. Some of the famous surf spots that are located in Kawailoa are Chuns Reef, Jockos, Laniakea, Alligator Rock, Uppers, & Leftovers. As a property owner, the offshore winds of this area are desireable becase it means less salt spray on your home (and therefore less maintenance) than many other areas of the island. Oceanfront homes for sale in Kawailoa range from rocky to sandy frontage, and the sand in some locations ebbs and flows during season.
The most prestigious address on the whole North Shore is Papailoa Road, which is located in the Kawailoa area. Papailoa property boasts very large lot sizes (some in excess of an acre on the beach), and has white sand beaches and surf spots fronting it. Other notable exclusive streets in this neighborhood include Pohaku Loa Way, No name road (Kamehameha Hwy. addresses), Kamehameha Hwy, and Tutu place. Tutu place is the newest subdivision in this area, and offers excellent ocean views from the ready to build vacant lot home sites with underground utilities. The properties on this stretch of coast are rarely available and much of the time no listings will be available.
