Wild and rugged, with lush rainforests, dramatic canyons, rocky cliffs, and pristine sandy beaches, Kauai is truly Hawaii’s “Garden Isle”. Yet Kauai’s more refined developments offer unparalleled vacation homes. The famed North Shore of Kauai, with the exclusive waterfront homes of Hanalei Bay and Princeville Resort Kauai, feels like a fantasy world with its lush mountains, yet offers resort-style amenities, world class surfing, and fine dining. A quaint shopping village anchors the town of Hanalei, which is only minutes from Princeville Resort and Hanalei Bay Resort. Surfers will find plenty of waves at Pine Trees in Hanalei Bay, while golfers can play a full round of 18 at Princeville Makai Golf Club. This Robert Trent Jones, Jr.-designed golf course was voted in the top 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses in America by Golf Digest magazine.
Just past Hanalei and Princeville is the small town of Kilauea, at the base of the Kilauea Volcano. Organic farms and outdoor adventure activities are all available for visitors, while residents will find large estates and farms in this pristine area of Kauai.
On Kauai’s South Shore, Poipu has developed into a Pacific playground with luxurious homes, fine dining, and high-end shopping. Kukui’ula Private Community and Golf Community near Poipu Beach on Kauai’s South Shore is the ultimate in Hawaiian luxury resort living. The 18 hole golf course at Kukui’ula was designed by Tom Weiskopf and is called by Golf Digest “one of the best courses in Hawai’i.” Homes in Kukui’ula are situated on large lots (many are Oceanview or ocean front) and are finished with spacious lanais to take advantage of the beautiful ocean setting. Kukui’ula Shopping Center is a lively town center, with restaurants, coffee shops, bars, shopping, and entertainment options. Though Kauai is home to one of the rainiest spots on Earth (Mt. Waialaie), Poipu is the sunniest spot on the island and is perfect for long beach days and evenings on the town.
Kapa’a on the East side provides more affordable homes and rentals, as well as quaint shops, restaurants, and farmers markets. In this beachfront, visitors and residents will find healthy juice bars (Java Kai, Kauai Juice Co.), restaurants, art galleries, live music, and bars. Overlooking Kapa’a is a thriving cacao farm, owned by the Lydgate family for over 100 years. Lydgate Farms Chocolate produces fresh, bean to bar Hawaiian chocolate and even provides educational farm tasting tours.
Kauai’s famed Napali coast, with its jagged, emerald mountains rising right from the ocean, is truly one of Hawaii’s most spectacular sights (and one of the natural wonders of the world). Accessed only by trail, boat, or helicopter, these mountains and beaches are not to be missed and are a bucket list sight to behold.
