Waikiki is the land of sun, surf, sand, smiles and simple pleasures. While I have had family living in Waikiki all my life I myself have been a resident of this lovely place for the last two years. There are so many conveniences so close by that it is easy to think that the place was designed with you personally in mind. You can easily find a restaurant or other place to eat and the variety available is amazing with Italian, Greek, Vietnamese, Chinese, Thai, Japanese, fine dining or sandwich shops all within a rocks throw of most places within Waikiki. Given that Waikiki is geared as such a spectacular tourist destination it’s no surprise that entertainment is also readily accessible. It doesn’t matter if you are in the mood for live jazz, rock and roll, out of town D.J.s , or just some simple slack key guitar by the beach at sunset, its all there most nights in the week. While there are no large movie theaters in Waikiki there are two multiplexes with in a five minute bus or drive from Waikiki. It goes without saying that if sun sand and surf are on your wish list you will be living you dream in this destination paradise.
Material considerations aside, what of the people? Given that there is a large number of transient residents, the variety of places and ethnicities from which the people of Waikiki come is astounding. What is even more of a surprise is the friendliness of the people. It is not hard to see why the people who are visiting are so happy for they are on vacation and life is a joy when you are pampering yourself. I feel that is where the joy of the residents comes from as well. Everyday when I pull out on my way to the office I see at least one person walking around Waikiki with an ear to ear grin as if to say, “I can’t believe I am in such a beautiful place!” Being a lover of travel myself I get a vicarious thrill out of seeing such blissful humans around me and feel for just a moment that my life in Waikiki is a little bit of a vacation everyday. Waikiki is a one of a kind place that will appeal to people of all ages and will offer you your own little slice of paradise with every wakeful moment.
