"My husband, Dwight, and I have lived in Hawaii Kai for over 15 years. We enjoy the quiet neighborhoods and the safe, friendly atmosphere. We are close enough to the ocean to be able to enjoy the beach whenever we choose. There is also the right mix of stores nearby that satisfy our regular shopping needs.
We have two small boys – one 8 ½ years old and one 4 ½ years old. We are able to take them to any one of numerous parks in the area. We also enjoy bike riding and feeding the ducks at sunset. My sons and I have participated in seven Honolulu Century Bike Rides and are currently putting together a pilot bike school bus project. The bike school bus, aka bike train, has one adult in front and one in back. We ride along a pre-determined route and pick up children on their bikes and escort them to school. This is just another example of the wonderful opportunities available in our community."

"I have traveled the globe extensively and Hawaii Kai would have to be one of the best places in the world to live. Our community has so many things to offer. First of all we are beautifully located --far enough out of the busy-ness of the city but close enough to great shopping. The Hawaii Kai Towne Center and the "Koko Marina" and "Hawaii Kai" shopping centers provide superb dining, shopping and entertainment for locals and visitors alike. The natural beauty is remarkable as well. Just at the base of Koko Head Crater, and in view of Diamond Head, is one the most popular recreational swimming, snorkeling and picnicking areas on Oahu--Hanauma Bay Nature Park.
Around the corner we can golf or head to world famous Sandy Beach, but be careful, those waves can be more powerful than they look. Either way your chances of sunny skies are excellent since we get great weather year round out here on the East side. Just near the Marina, Kaiser High School provides a great education for students. I went to school there and still love to help out whenever I get a chance. Adult classes are offered too as part of the continuing education program the campus facilitates. Aside from the High School there are three elementary schools, and its a good thing too since Hawaii Kai is a place of growing families. I should know, having come here with my parents when I was just about ten, I've returned to settle down and raise my family in this, the best neighborhood in the world."
Aloha,

"As a Hawaii resident for more than 40 years, and a Hawaii Kai resident for the past 14, I value our community as being truly representative of all that is good and unique about Hawaii. The wonderful cultural and ethnic diversification of the people, the multitude of small business entrepreneurs-our neighbors-the natural beauty of the land and sea, rich historic heritage, numerous retail, dining, entertainment and service choices, and the special activities and events make Hawaii Kai Oahu's number one choice for comfortable living. Its a great place to raise kids and to marvel at their sports and educational achievements.
As a state senator, I am doubly honored to be able to represent my neighbors in an area that proudly is a statewide leader in voter participation and community contributions and leadership. Mahalo, Hawaii Kai!"
State Senator Sam Slom (R-8th),
